MK Explorer - A Simple File Manager

MK Explorer is a simple Material Friendly File Manager application that is available for free in the Google Play Store with In-app purchases. The In-app purchases are donations and not for pro features. The app is build by Mateusz Kornakiewicz.

Move your files or delete them, Compress or extract the compressed files. The app has a built-in gallery, text editor, music player. In addition to that, you can add shortcuts to the home screen and the app supports 20 languages.

Even though the app has a search box to search the files, it isn't an instant search. It takes time if you're searching through a long list.

Great Day Readers! To give us more insights into the application development, the application developer Mateusz Kornakiewicz responded the answers. Here are the Q&A exclusive for our readers.

1.  Tell us about yourself?

I am a last year student of Medical University in Poland, Cracow. I’m not studying medicine, but something similar - Medical Analytics (job in labs). Programming had become my hobby 3 years ago and after almost 1 year of learning, I released my first and only (so far) app - MK Explorer. I wouldn’t call myself as an “Android developer”, I’m just an autodidact without any degree in IT.

2. What was your inspiration that leads to the creation of MK Explorer?

What was my inspiration? Hmm... When I had bought my first Android phone I started to use it like a normal computer, I connected it with DropBox by DropSync (really cool app ;)), so when I needed any file I had an (offline) access directly from the phone. At the beginning, I used Total Commander (also a really good app) which has two windows function, easy access from the home page to storages, but I didn’t like its interface. I needed a nice looking app which would suit to "original" Android, but there was nothing interesting for me. Then I decided to create my own app, perfect (for me, of course) in all of these aspects.

3. What was the biggest challenge faced while developing MK Explorer?

To be honest, in my case everything was “the biggest challenge”. I was learning to program (and I still do it) alone, without any basics and I had problems with even the easiest things, which now I can do in less than one minute. It was really difficult but I’m proud of myself, I didn’t give up and I want to be a programmer in my future. Except these difficulties, the biggest problem is fragmentation, hundreds of different devices and system versions. One function works on one device, doesn’t work on another so you correct it and it starts to work, you’re happy... but then you notice that it stopped working on the first device and the fun begins again. Nightmare, really.

4. What features can be expected in the upcoming updates?

The most important features which I wanted to add a long time ago is an access to DropBox, OneDrive and Google Drive. Next, I would like to add something what others managers don't have but it's a secret ;)

5. Is there anything else you want to tell our readers?

To those who start their adventures with Java and Android I would like to tell - Don't give up! The beginning can be difficult but later you will be able to create really great apps! :)
