Lumi - Personalize News by Swiping Right and Left

Lumi is a curated news application offered by Lumi News. It is available for free with no In-app purchases.

Lumi Android App Screenshots

Lumi shows you the title and a short overview of the news. You can swipe down to read the entire article. If you like a story, you can swipe right and if you don't like the story, swipe left (you guessed it right similar to Tinder but this is a news app). Based on the stories you liked and disliked the app curates your news.

You can add interested topics and connect your Facebook, Twitter accounts to personalize news even more. You can also comment on the stories and read offline.

Using the app is so easy and you don't have to spend time customizing the topics, adding websites. You can focus simply on reading the news.

Great Day Readers! To get more insights into the application development, the co-founder, Martin Stiksel responded with the answers. Here are the Q&A exclusive for our readers.

1. Tell us about the team?

A passionate bunch of people on a mission to bring the world relevant stuff to read. Loads of data Science has gone into it, we have 3 great people working on that side of the apps. Additionally, we have some excellent Android and iOS and backend capabilities. And Felix and myself, previously founders of Last.fm

2. What was your inspiration that leads to the creation of Lumi?

We wanted to make it easy for people to discover interesting stuff to read, no matter how much technical expertise they have. There is too much great stuff floating around on the internet that gets missed unless you spend lots of time tuning your Twitter/RSS reader etc.

And just like with Last.fm before, we also wanted help those people that create the content to reach an interested audience.

3. What was the biggest challenge faced while developing Lumi?

Bundling all the data science cleverness in a user experience that does not get in the way of the user enjoying their content. Lots of smart apps end up cluttering the interface with loads of option to rate articles and tell the app more about the topics the users are interested in at the expense of the actual consumption, the reading

Lumi learns it all automatically, just connect Facebook or Twitter and carry on reading and Lumi will figure out what you are interested in.

4. What features can be expected in the upcoming updates?

Both on Android and on iOS we are looking at how you can find the best of what your friends are reading too, so it enriches your stream of relevant articles.

5. Is there anything else you want to tell our readers?

Hopefully, Lumi will help you to find interesting articles to read, articles you might not have found anywhere else. Try it out and let us know what you think!
